You can now taste oxtail meatloaf, a smoked mushroom sandwich + more at Metropolitan
Chef Gregory Collier and Subrina Collier’s BayHaven Restaurant Group has opened a new restaurant called 3rd & Fernwood — with a speakeasy set to come — at Metropolitan Charlotte.
Mark your calendar for Friday, Aug. 30, when the restaurant will host a grand opening celebration. You’ll get to try the eclectic menu and learn about 3rd & Fernwood’s bar program. You’ll also get a complimentary glass of champagne with your meal. Reservations are available via OpenTable.
Gregory Collier posted on the restaurant’s Instagram that he was most excited about the restaurant’s veggies. “Southern food is more about the veggies and the seasons for me,” he wrote. “We intentionally made a bunch of vegetarian options (smoked mushroom and Carolina gold rice burger is crazy).”
In a statement last fall, the chef had described this restaurant as BayHaven’s “most approachable” spot yet.
“We aim to delve into the foodways of the African diaspora and its connection to the American South,” he said. “In doing so, we will take on a fresh but elevated perspective that acknowledges the substantial influence of the South and its culinary traditions, specifically the renowned ‘meat and three’ meals.”
The restaurant will be located in the former Hickory Tavern spot.
The menu includes items like:
- fried chicken thigh sandwich, served with Carolina gold sauce and Memphis-style slaw on a brioche bun
- pan-seared trout with roasted okra gravy
- three cheese mac
- braised collards
- charred beets with Alabama white sauce
- hambone grits
The restaurant will have 100 seats, 20 at the bar and 20 outside. Catering is available, as well.
SPEAKEASY: The speakeasy will have seating for 16 and a separate entrance. It’s available by reservation only.
