Grab a drink and take in some waterfront views at this reopened Lake Norman restaurant

When you take a seat with a lakeside view at North Harbor Club in Davidson, you’re going to notice a few changes.

The Lake Norman restaurant that closed a few weeks ago for renovations, has now reopened for service. So you can get back to snacking on Asparagus Fries or Mango Bango Shrimp while you wait for your order and jam out to relaxing ’80s tunes from Rick Astley and Paula Abdul. (Yes, the restaurant is Rickrolling us!)

Among the new features at the upscale but unstuffy restaurant is an upgrade to the bar area, along with a few swaps on the menu.

Now you’ll find crab dip, queso and roasted red pepper hummus on the appetizer menu — and you can choose three to pair together. There’s also a new scallop appetizer, which comes with quinoa salad, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, cashews and gremolata.

Other changes include:

  • Tilapia has been swapped out for snapper, and you’ll find a brand new blackened snapper entree.
  • There’s now a chicken option when you order carne asada fries.
  • The toppings on the Korean Street Tacos have been updated from a Brussels sprout-based slaw to a new mix topped with avocado crema.
  • The side dish with the short rib entree has been switched from pumpkin puree to herbed polenta.

The North Harbor Club you know remains largely familiar, however, as a favorite spot for business meetings, ladies lunches and family gatherings. You can still see the boats and oars hanging from the ceiling as you sip a Lavender Lake Tea or Blackberry Old Fashioned, and the glass-encased sailboat still separates the dining room from the bar.

Reservations are a good idea, as the phone is ringing rather regularly with Lake Norman area residents making dinner plans. You might be able to catch a patio seat on a mild day, although the restaurant’s outdoor seating — featuring sunny yellow umbrellas — won’t be fully open until temperatures even out later this spring.
