A neighborhood seafood spot is closing its doors for good in Charlotte this week
Rocksalt, a go-to spot in Charlotte for fresh oysters and other seafood since 2015, is closing up its Montford neighborhood restaurant.
“We have had a great 10 year run and enjoyed so many memories with you all over the years. Unfortunately, we’ve reached that point where it is no longer tenable to operate as a full-service restaurant and so we will be closing the doors this week,” a statement released via social media said.
Rocksalt is owned by Rappahannock Oyster Company co-owner and restaurateur Travis Croxton, whose family has been in the aquaculture business in Virginia for generations.
The Park Road Shopping Center restaurant — featuring a string light-decorated patio that’s heated and enclosed during the winter — has served as both a neighborhood hangout and a special occasion spot. Many regulars stop in for oysters and wine, or make reservations to enjoy a grand meal such as its annual Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner at Christmas.
For those who want to stop in one last time, the restaurant will offer oyster and cocktail specials Monday and Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and “may open for a few hours each afternoon this week.” Bottles of wine will be available for retail purchase, too.
Customers sorry to see Rocksalt close left an outpouring of comments on the post.
- “Thank you. Had some memorable meals and delicious fish with you. My first father’s day lunch was spent with you!” Thomas James Moquet said.
- Jeanne Morel wrote: “Rocksalt has been our favorite place to celebrate little victories and big milestones. We will miss you.”
- “I am so sorry to see this! Loved your top quality restaurant and wish you ALL the best,” Sarah Rich-Wehmeyer said.
