A new restaurant aiming to satisfy Charlotte’s cravings — Mother’s Comfort Food & Cocktails — is opening Thursday, Aug. 14 in the Park Road Shopping Center spot where Cantina 1511 once operated.

The Southern California restaurant’s location in Charlotte’s Montford neighborhood will be its first on the East Coast. The brand was first introduced as Mama’s Comfort Food & Cocktails, but owners later switched the name.

“We’ve always been drawn to the warmth and welcoming nature of the Carolinas,” Pete Truxaw, co-founder of Mother’s Comfort Food & Cocktails, said in a news release.

“Our guests have loved us all these years because we focus on what they want – a truly delicious meal that reminds them of home and great memories in the kitchen with mom. Charlotte, we’re coming in big, with huge flavors, warm smiles and a whole lot of heart!”

A grand opening celebration will take place in September, with menu tastings and opportunities for interaction with the staff, as well as learning more about local charity partners.

The casual, family-friendly restaurant will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner with a broad menu lineup similar to what you might find in a diner.

The plate has a green rim. On the left, another person is eating a plate of chicken and waffles, with a beer in a pint glass nearby. A small pitcher of syrup, a caddy of condiments, and a cocktail with a pink straw and lemon wedge are visible on the table between them.

Early in the day, pancakes, waffles and eggs benedicts will be hitting the tables, along with Breakfast Pizza Pie, topped with eggs; your choice of smoked bacon, sausage, chicken sausage or chorizo; mozzarella cheese; cherry tomatoes; Mama’s country gravy and Mama’s potatoes.

At lunch and dinner, sizable burgers — including an Impossible brand vegan burger — will share the stage with soups, salads and sandwiches. There’s also a lineup of Mama’s Specialties with pasta options, seafood, steak and pizza.

And about those cocktails: Classic drinks with broad appeal fill the menu, with Amaretto sours, appletinis, Long Island iced teas and pina coladas making an appearance. Seasonal selections will rotate, and a handful of mocktail options including the “Designated Driver” ensure a variety for all tastes.

Mother’s plans to foster community connections in Charlotte, as it has on the West Coast, where, it has raised more than $1 million for local schools, youth sports and non-profit organizations. It also calls for nominations for its Mother’s Wall of Fame each Mother’s Day, displaying images of inspiring mothers.
