A hearty menu with Chicken Philly Steaks, The Pig Boy BBQ sandwiches, fried fish and burgers is awaiting customers at a new South Charlotte lunch spot: Stephie’s Kitchen.

The restaurant co-owned by Stephanie Fleming and her husband, DaNeil; and Lamel and Jessica Gibson is focused on the mid-day crowd, with hours of 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

It’s tucked away in a business park near Arrowood Road and I-77 in a former BB&T bank branch that had been transformed into a diner. In fact, the easiest way to find it is to follow Fleming’s step-by-step video directions, posted on the restaurant’s Instagram page.

Don’t want to make the drive? Delivery via Grubhub, DoorDash and Uber Eats is also an option.

A Big Bird Griller chicken sandwich is on the menu, as is Chef Steph’s Grilled Chicken Salad for folks looking for healthier options. Those with big appetites may want to eyeball a cheesesteak sandwich (DaNeil Fleming’s favorite) with an added side dish or the Fisherman’s Big Catch Platter, which comes with fried whiting, fried shrimp, coleslaw, hush puppies and a side.

Wings are served with a choice of eight sauces. The menu also includes five burger options, which can be piled high with add-on toppings including bacon, grilled onions or peppers, jalapenos and even chili to customize your meal.

Fleming — a former Charlotte teacher-turned pastry chef who has done catering and wedding cakes for a long time — runs the kitchen with a mix of family recipes and her own creations she perfected while feeding her now-grown sons.

“It’s always been a dream for us,” Fleming told CharlotteFive.

She keeps a dessert case stocked with treats like banana pudding cake, red velvet cake and cheesecake, so you can grab a slice when you order or on your way out the door to take home for later. Pre-made salads, sandwiches and wraps are packed and ready with a bag of chips for a quick meal on the go.

The restaurant is generally closed on Sundays but will be open third Sunday of every month with a signature theme.

“We will mix it up all the time,” Fleming said.

January’s theme was soul food, featuring savory chicken, fried fish and meatloaf alongside macaroni and cheese, cabbage and potato salad in both individual and family portions. For February, a theme is in the works with chicken wings — Fleming’s favorite menu item.
