If a glazed croissant with gooey filling sounds enticing, you’re in luck. Burney’s Sweets and More’s newest Waxhaw location will have a soft opening on July 4 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., so you can start your holiday off with a sugary blast.
The bakery originally started by the Burney family has several locations across North Carolina. In January, Uptown Charlotte welcomed Burney’s Sweets and More to the Belmont neighborhood. Next week, its downtown Waxhaw shop will fully open with regular hours.
“Waxhaw is a quaint little town,” Kimberly Johnson owner of Burney’s Sweets and More Uptown and Waxhaw, told Charlotte Five. “We’re more of a homestyle bakery, and we just felt like it was a great match.”
If you’ve ever visited Burney’s, you’ll know that it is famous for its glazed croissants. You can have them in regular size or mini and can even have them filled 12 different ways.
“We’ll feature a flavor of the week for our croissants. Right now, our most popular fillings are buttercream, cream cheese, chocolate, apple and lemon.”
This latest location will offer more cakes in its case, as well.

“We offer 15-layer cakes, something that you really don’t find often in Charlotte. We have a chocolate one and a caramel option that we make in-house. It’s something that sets us apart from other bakeries in the area,” Johnson said.
While the bakery was originally created by the Burneys, each location is independently owned. They are all a pretty tight knit group though, often chatting it up via text.
“We’re honestly one big family, although not necessarily related by blood.”
The grand opening will happen July 9. Guests who come in on that day will be treated to one free glazed mini croissant, no purchase necessary. It will be open everyday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
