There’s a new vodka in town, y’all. Well, not far from town

North Carolina is no doubt a beer state, with breweries popping up in Asheville and Charlotte and all over the state, but people should know that N.C. is holding its own when it comes to distilleries, too.

The Tar Heel state is home to several spirits brands such as Cardinal Gin, Muddy River Rum and Charlotte’s own Doc Porter’s and Great Wagon Road Distilling Company.

Not far up the road from Charlotte you’ll find Piedmont Distillers. Located in Maiden, Piedmont has been quite successful with brands such as Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon and Catdaddy Moonshines.

Enter Method + Standard Vodka, a new addition to Piedmont’s portfolio.

Method + Standard is made from 100 percent corn and its flavors are made much like moonshine, naturally infused with real fruit. The four-times-distilled spirit comes in these flavors: original, strawberry, raspberry and apple spice.

I was lucky enough to chat with Joe Michalek, founder of Piedmont Distillers, and he’s damn proud of his new creation.

“Method + Standard is crafted without compromise,” he said. “It was created using our 10 years of learning and experimentation with different ingredients and different methods to craft the finest vodka possible. It’s a vodka for those that care what is in their products, how they are made and want products that have a real, all-natural taste.”

Having a party? Head to your nearest ABC store. You’ll find it in the vodka section for roughly $37. Below is a recipe to impress your friends at said party.

Methodical Mule

– Lightly muddle up some raspberries

– Add 1.5 oz of M+S Raspberry

– Fill glass with Ginger Beer

– Garnish with fresh mint

– Boom.
