Italian restaurant Vivace closes in Midtown Charlotte
As the rest of the world was saying goodbye to a decade on New Year’s Eve, Urban Food Group was saying goodbye to one of its restaurants.
Italian restaurant Vivace closed its Metropolitan location after dinner service on Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, 2019.
The restaurant had been open since 2009 at 1100 Metropolitan Ave.
In a statement, Urban Food Group cited a failure of the lease negotiations with its landlord, Bayer Properties.
Instead, Kevin and Stacey Jennings will focus efforts on the group’s two new restaurants opened in Charlotte in the past year (Bar Marcel and Civetta) as well as restaurants in Wilmington, and creating new concepts.
“Despite receiving many awards and accolades, Vivace ultimately was not well-suited for an 8000-plus-square-foot space,” Kevin Jennings said in the statement. “When one door closes, another opens and we look forward to seeing the many friends we made at Vivace at our other restaurants ....”
Urban Food Group, formed in 1998, is known for its urban restaurant concepts. In addition to Vivace in Charlotte and Raleigh, owners Kevin and Stacey Jennings also opened Bar Marcel and Civetta in Charlotte, Coquette and Chow in Raleigh, Avelina in Denver, Colorado and Brasserie du Soleil, Osteria Cicchetti and Boca Bay Restaurant in Wilmington.
