Charleston-based Boxcar Betty’s will open its fifth location at Optimist Hall this Friday, July 10. This marks the first North Carolina location for the classic fried chicken restaurant.

“We are so excited to bring our award-winning chicken sandwiches to the Charlotte market, Boxcar Betty’s co-owner Roth Scott said in a statement. “We feel honored to be part of such an incredible project with other wonderful tenants of Optimist Hall.”

Boxcar Betty’s, which now has locations in South Carolina and Chicago, started with a desire to bring high-end friend chicken sandwiches to the world. And in true Southern fashion, attentive customer service and locally sourced ingredients complete the experience. These are chicken sandwiches you can feel good about — everything on your tray is compostable.

There are three options for sandwiches, including The Boxcar (pimento cheese, peach slaw, house pickles and spicy mayo), the Chicken “Not So Waffle” (bacon jam, maple syrup, pimento cheese, tomato) and the Buffalo (blue cheese sauce, tomato, bibb lettuce). You can even build your own chicken sandwich or mushroom sandwich, for a vegetarian option.

Boxcar Betty’s will be located in the main food hall next to Velvet Taco. Look forward to a farmhouse-industrial feel with pieces of salvaged reclaimed wood and industrial lighting.

“There are fried chicken sandwiches, and then there is Boxcar Betty’s. We may be biased, but after trying many of them, we think Charlotteans will agree that Boxcar has the best fried chicken sandwich in the market, and we are excited to have them be a part of our lineup at Optimist,” said Jay Levell, Optimist Hall partner.

Boxcar Betty’s will be open Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
