Emmy Squared Pizza’s new Charlotte location is now open for takeout and delivery
South End pizza fans, take note: Emmy Squared Pizza’s second Charlotte location is now open for takeout and delivery.
The restaurant serves New York-style grandma pie meets Detroit Style pizza. It opened its first Charlotte location in September at 1508 Central Ave. and its second opens Thursday, Nov. 18 for takeout and delivery on Hawkins Street in South End.
LOOK FOR:
- A fluffy, focaccia-like crust topped with a ring of caramelized crispy-crunchy cheese.
Pizzas with a square shape and crispy bottom
Signature sauce stripes
Both red and white sauces on the menu

‘The best burger in America’
Its double-stack burger — the Le Big Matt — was named “#1 Best Burger in Nashville” by The Tennessean and Nashville Lifestyles, voted one of “The Best New Burgers in NYC” by Gothamist and listed as one of the “20 Best Burgers in NYC” by The Infatuation. The Today Show called the burger “The Best Burger in America” in 2017.
Emily Hyland, co-founder and partner of Emmy Squared, ditched Brooklyn for Charlotte over the summer, moving to the city that she has “fallen in love with,” she said in a statement. Does this mean we’re eating New York-style meets Detroit-style meets Charlotte-style pizza?
“I’m from the New York area, and I spent almost 20 years between Manhattan and Brooklyn. After the pandemic in Manhattan, it just felt like time for a change and we were opening some new locations. And I was sort of waffling between a few locations, particularly Nashville and Charlotte,” she told CharlotteFive recently. “And then I came down here on a road trip with my fiance and we just had a really good feeling in our gut — and so here we are.”
