Pie shop will open uptown later this month, with sweet and savory pies to-go
Sometimes, all you need is pie. And Mother Earth Group is here to help us out with that in its newest food venture, Hip Pies.
The pie shop will open April 20 at the Charlotte Visitor Info Center, serving individually sized pies to go. Each day, you’ll find two sweet and two savory pie options, with the menu will changing daily or weekly. So check Hip Pies’ Insta to see what it’s baking up before you head over.
Another thing to note: Due to the shop’s outdoor location, it won’t sell pies during inclement weather. When weather permits, Hip Pies will open for takeout Monday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Be on the lookout for flavors including:
- Apple Bourbon with Bacon Crust
- Barbecue with Sweet Potato Crust
- Carolina Crab Cake
- Cherry Cheerwine
- Chocolate Peanut Butter (vegan)
- Green Chicken Curry
- Ham and Jam with Benton’s Bacon
- Strawberry Rhubarb
- S’mores
Hip Pies grew out of the Chicken Pot Pie that Mother Earth Group founder Jill Marcus created for Something Classic Cafe. The pies were featured years ago on Food Network’s “Food Finds,” spurring requests to ship chicken pot pie across the country and teaching the team about the deep connections people feel to pie.
“Most callers had a story to tell about their grandmother’s pot pie and how those memories were a real comfort to many in this ever-changing world,” Marcus said. “I feel lucky that we got to experience all of those stories as opposed to an email that ‘You just got an order.’”
Hip Pies will expand on that.
“Our hope is that Hip Pies delivers that same feeling of nostalgia and comfort to Uptown locals and visitors,” Marcus said.
