Lowcountry Boil — also known as Frogmore Stew or one-pot — is a staple in the Carolinas. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn, cooked in boiled and seasoned water and sometimes doused in butter afterward is hard to beat.

Some add on crab or other seafood, while others stay traditional with just shrimp. You can find this regional treasure in the Charlotte area’s restaurants and seafood markets alike, just in time for Memorial Day and summer gatherings.

Here are a few places to get a Lowcountry Boil when the craving strikes:

Carolina Meat & Fish Co.

Location: 16709 Orchard Stone Run, Charlotte, NC 28277

Neighborhood: Ballantyne/South Charlotte

This seafood market’s Panther’s Tailgate Low Country Boil to Go feeds 8-10 people — and you do the cooking. (And the directions highly suggest a newspaper subscription would be helpful for multiple reasons: “Clean up is easy, just toss the Low Country Boil on a bed of Charlotte Observer newspaper or just eat right out of our heavy duty aluminum serving dish.”) Online ordering is available.

Krustaceans Seafood

Krustaceans, opened by former Carolina Panthers player Marcus Lucas, specializes in seafood boil with an added twist. Customers can add spices and flavors to each dish, such as garlic jalapeno, lemon pepper and the “original,” an Old Bay flavor, Lucas said. Online ordering is available.

Mr. 3’s Crab Pot

Location: 401 Bradford Dr., Charlotte, NC 28208

Neighborhood: Thomasboro-Hoskins

Location: 2431 E Ozark Ave., Gastonia, NC 28054

Neighborhood: Gastonia

It may be called Shrimp Dinner Boiled on the menu at both locations of Mr. 3’s, but it’s Lowcountry Boil all the way with shrimp, potatoes, sausage and corn. Online ordering is available.

Papa Doc’s Shore Club

Location: 3990 Charlotte Hwy, Lake Wylie, SC 29710

Neighborhood: Lake Wylie

At Papa Doc’s, the Lowcountry Boil comes with hushpuppies (plus honey butter) and cocktail sauce. Pro tip: The plentiful portion is perfect for sharing. We recommend starting with a few oysters to round out the meal and grabbing a seat out on the patio to enjoy the lake views.
