Teal Turnip opens soon: New Oakhurst restaurant with small plates and a large patio
A new small plates restaurant from the Tayste Catering team, The Teal Turnip, will open May 5 in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Charlotte.
THIS WEEKEND:
- Friday, May 5: A special Cinco de Mayo block party including ‘posh’ tacos and signature drinks.
- Saturday, May 6, The Teal Turnip will be open for regular service (lunch and dinner) debuting their full menu, and reservations are available now on its website.
Married chefs Taylor Kastl and Steve McGinley own the restaurant concept — and plan to continue operating Tayste Catering out of the back.
Kasle described the restaurant as “fine dining in a t-shirt.”
“We were looking for a bigger space to balance the restaurant size with our catering needs, but the gorgeous patio and the community feel of Oakhurst really sold us,” Kastl previously told CharlotteFive.
“Oakhurst is growing and not in a way that pushes others out, like some gentrifying neighborhoods. It’s welcoming and inviting. It feels like a great fit, and we’re ready and excited to grow with it.”
The cozy, 2,500-square-foot space near Swirl, NoDa Yoga and Night Swim Coffee will seat 32, with a 1,000-square-foot patio offering room for 40 to dine outdoors at dinner time.
The vibe: Kastl described the space as: “Smaller, intimate, personal. A special experience. That’s just fine with us.”
The food: Expect seasonal dishes with ingredients for the adventurous. Think: beef tongue and cheek, and liver mousse.
The drinks: The chefs plan to assemble an impressive wine list and will offer creative cocktails, as well.
