What to expect
The two-story red-brick building has been painted light gray with a white stripe pop on the side. A blue letter sign went up on the building last September. The 4,480-square-foot building was built in 1945, Mecklenburg County property records show.
The interior has been renovated with marble and stone tile walls and wood floors, photos and videos on social media show. The decor includes velvet seating.
“Whether you’re enjoying an intimate conversation or dancing the night away, our upscale interior lighting ensures that every corner exudes sophistication and charm,” Marquee said on social media.
The cocktail menu includes drinks named for the area like the Enderly made with gin, elderflower, champagne and lemon; and Queen’s Punch made with Zacapa rum, passion fruit juice and citrusy notes of lime juice. There’s also the Marquee signature old-fashioned and the Smoke’n Tuck Old Fashioned with Angels Envy, maple syrup and orange bitters. Prices range from $17 to $23, the online cocktail menu shows.
The food menu includes small plates like chicken wings in a variety of flavors, fried green beans, crab cakes and jerk lamb. There also are barbecue or buffalo chicken pizzas and chicken Caesar wrap. Prices range from $12 to $15, the online tapas menu shows.
Marquee Charlotte also offers patio seating and overflow parking. VIP table reservations can be made at themarqueenc.com.
Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Neighbors had concerns about the site
In 2018, Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Charlotte sold the commercial building for $250,000 to 3131 Tuckaseegee LLC, according to Mecklenburg County Property records. The property is registered to owner Kennedy Howard.
The bar proposal was met with concerns three years ago because the building has a capacity for 83 people but only eight parking spaces. Neighbors criticized the plan for lack of parking, WSOC-TV reported in 2020.
Howard said then the bar would partner with Uber and Lyft to encourage ride shares, and set up a valet stand to park cars. Marquee also built a privacy fence butting up to neighbors properties.
A Marquee official did not return calls for comment from The Charlotte Observer.
