After the new year, fans of The Pizza Peel & Tap Room in Matthews will have to head to Charlotte for a fix. The restaurant location will close Dec. 31 to make way for a new location of The Flying Biscuit Cafe to take over in early 2023.

The Matthews location will be the all-day breakfast restaurant’s third location in the Charlotte area. Biscuit-hungry folks will find the other locations at the Park Road Shopping Center and at Stonecrest in Ballantyne.

Pizza Peel locations will remain open in Plaza Midwood and Cotswold.

After the switch to Flying Biscuit, diners in Matthews will find a menu offering breakfast favorites such as waffles, pancakes, omelets and more, including vegetarian and vegan options. Lunch options are available as well at the Atlanta-based chain, including burgers, salad and sandwiches.

The restaurant won’t change hands, however.

Owner Will Bigham said, “As the owner and operator of the other two locations in Charlotte, I believe that this concept will be a better fit for the Matthews community. The flip will help offer a better quality of life for our teammates and put more money into their pockets.”
