First look: State of Confusion opens today, with funnel cakes and Peruvian-influenced ceviche
State of Confusion, a cocktail spot serving food with Peruvian, New Orleans and Lowcountry influences that got its start in Chattanooga, is opening in LoSo Village on April 17.
The sister restaurant to STIR will serve lunch, dinner and brunch — plus monthly specials — in a space near Gilde Brewery, Weathered Souls and Red Clay Ciderworks.
“I think that we’ve built at the right time for this this community,” general manager Brent Reid told CharlotteFive on Thursday, April 6. “We’ve got great cuisine, authentic cocktails and a real laid back atmosphere to bring your family or your business partners.“
The food: Expect a fun lineup, with brunch offerings such as the Funnel Cake Breakfast, which includes housemade funnel cake with powdered sugar — of course — topped with melted butter and syrup, and served with Confusion Potatoes and three eggs.
There’s also a heavy Peruvian influence in the menu, which features eight ceviches (including a vegan one), dishes such as Peruvian Paella, Peruvian Lettuce Wraps and even Peruvian Lucuma Ice Cream.
Hints of New Orleans stick out, as well, with a traditional muffuletta, jambalaya and shrimp and vegan po boy options. Beignets are on the dessert menu, too.
The drinks: Beverages include aguas frescas, plus beer, cocktails, seltzers and wine. You can order a Sugarcane Mojito or a Matchu Pichu, a take on a Pisco Sour that includes Chilean Pisco, hibiscus-raspberry-pomegranate-matcha green tea syrup, fresh citrus juices.
At brunch there’s also lineup of affordable drinks, such as $5 Double Mimosas and $6 Aguas Frescas Mimosas, along with $5 Bloody Marys.
People and dogs: Owner Jamie Walton told Axios Charlotte that State of Confusion will be dog-friendly, too.
