Sabor will add tortas to the menu in March. Here’s what you can expect.
Sabor’s uptown Charlotte restaurant recently became a test kitchen for a new menu item: Tortas.
Owner Dalton Espaillat said that if all goes well, you can expect to see the sandwiches at all of the Sabor locations around mid-March. He recently invited CharlotteFive into the kitchen to see what he’s cooking up. Yum!
Here’s what to expect:
- Traditional Mexican Torta, made with al pastor.
- Dominican Burger Torta, also called The Riki Taki, made with ground beef, fresh cabbage, tomatoes and rosada sauce.
- Carne Asada Cheesesteak Torta, made with steak and the restaurant’s queso.
The tortas are made with bolillo-style bread. It’s thick and dense, before the bread is flattened to reduce its volume for the sandwich.
PRO TIP: Don’t sleep on the Dominican Burger Torta. “This is the one I’m really excited about,” Espaillat told us. It’s typically found in his hometown of Santiago. “This is my take of a hometown dish called The Riki Taki. You see how crusty that is?” he asked C5 videographer Alex Cason. “It’s a huge sandwich.”
