Food hall with soju distillery, steak, sandwiches and more is open in Charlotte
A new food hall — Urban District Market — is now open in Charlotte’s Optimist Park neighborhood, with six restaurants and seven more on the way.
At 20,000-square-foot former textile building, you can dine inside or on the patio, or pick up food to go. There’s also private event space available to book, and a rooftop terrace is slated open later this year.
You can access the food hall via the Cross Charlotte Trail and LYNX Blue Line light rail’s 25th Street station.
“The Urban District Market has something for everyone from parents to kids, the social butterfly, or even the fly on the wall. We wanted to create something unique for the Queen City,” The MOB Group Inc. said in a statement about the food hall within the adaptive-reuse development Lintmen’s.
Here’s what to expect when you go:
- Crispy Patty: Find Katsu sandwiches made with shrimp, pork, fish, beef, soft shell crab or chicken.
- HC Burger Company: The burger stall will offer burgers made with hand-chopped meat, plus fries.
- LaBARatory: The science lab-themed bar and craft brewery from the team behind Seoul Food Meat Co. includes a Soju distillery.
- The Rare Butcher: Premium steak served on hot stone platters will be paired with gourmet sides.
- Stick Street: Look for global street fare foods — on a stick, of course.
- Stuffed: The stall will focus on dumplings — steamed, pan fried or deep fried — with savory and sweet options.
The remaining seven restaurants will open later this year. A sneak peek on Urban District Market’s website hints that a coffee shop, tacos and Asian food will be included.
Firms involved in the project include Charlotte developer Pamaka, Whiteside Properties, Cluck Design Collaborative, Liles Construction, landscape architect Design Partners and Deacon and Deutsche Beverage Technology.
