A fast casual Indonesian restaurant is opening soon at the Arboretum in Charlotte
The owners of Prime Fish and Omakase Experience by Prime Fish have set an opening date for their newest concept — Dec. 11. Nusa will be a fast-casual Indonesian restaurant located in the Arboretum.
The restaurant was previously announced as Prima Rasa, but the name has since changed. It will take over the former Charlotte Cafe space near Vicious Biscuit. Patrons of Nusa will order at the counter, be given a number and food will be delivered to their table.
The concept is the brainchild of chef Hendra Tjiey and will feature Indonesian cuisine with a Chinese flair, reflecting both his home country and heritage. Tjiey will operate the kitchen, run under the direction of Prime Fish executive head chef Robin Anthony.
In the dining room, there’s space for about 50 customers in the 3,700 square-foot spot. Tables will mostly offer seating for groups of two or four.
At the restaurant — billed as the Carolinas’ first Indonesian restaurant — expect affordable, filling dishes made with traditional recipes, such as skewers, salads and stews, plus noodle and rice dishes. Vegetarian options, as well as chicken, beef and seafood, will be available. In keeping with Indonesian tradition, pork will not be served.
One important thing to note is that Indonesian cuisine is heavy with tree nuts, peanuts and shellfish, general manager Kendra Kong said. “Almost everything will contain one of the three,” she added, so people with allergies will want to take note. Signage noting allergy concerns will be up in the restaurant, as well.
