Gourmand Market, a new gourmet food market and bar where you can snack on small plates and have a cocktail before you pick up a few grab-and-go staples to take home, is now open in SouthPark.

You’ll find the market at Apex SouthPark, tucked next to Steak 48. Owner Bo Phillips told CharlotteFive the market is a playful, ambiance-driven experience, where there’s a lot to look at — including a popcorn machine and a pink pig Traeger grill — while you wait for a smoked cocktail and a sandwich.

“You eat with your eyes first, and there are a lot of multisensory engaging opportunities here,” Phillips said.

Retail items for sale at Gourmand Market include handmade chocolates, small-batch jams and meat and artisanal cheeses, along with house-made products such as pickled onions and green beans. You’ll find cocktail napkins and other entertaining amenities alongside pancake and biscuit mixes, and items created with family and holiday recipes, and “ancestors old school recipe cards.”

Phillip said her goal was to represent local farms and products that aren’t readily found in Charlotte — including specialty items such as parbaked frozen pizzas from cult favorite Sir Pizza in her hometown of High Point, where she grew up on a farm.

“There was a void in this neighborhood. I myself was suffering the loss of Dean and Deluca,” she said.

Gourmand Market is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Early in the morning, you can grab a coffee and a few beignets, a croissant sandwich or sous vide egg bites.

Executive chef Jay Turczany has also crafted a lineup of sandwiches, charcuterie boards and and small plates for the market’s menu. You’ll find offerings such as:

  • Pork Belly with house slaw, johnnycake, creme fraiche, pickled onion and jalapeno ($14)
  • NC Trout Rillettes with chives, dill, smoked olive oil, pickled onion, trout roe and lavash ($9)
  • Beef Tartare with cured egg yolk, house made vinegar chips, coriander, lemon caper aioli and fried capers ($21)
  • Wild Mushroom Arancini with roasted mushrooms, parmesan, herbs, black truffle and sundried tomato aioli ($16)
  • Deviled eggs with black garlic, smoked trout roe, chives and smoked olive oil ($9).

The beverage program includes Night Swim Coffee — along with a variety of other coffees — wine, local beer and signature cocktails from the full-service bar. Expect cocktail choices including:

  • Oh Snap with sugar snap peas, Hendrick’s gin, St. Germaine, thyme and lemon
  • Royal Tea with Butterfly Pea Flower Tea, Tito’s vodka, orange liqueur and lemon
  • Oaxaca Peach with Los Siete Misterios Mezcal, Lunazul tequila, white peach, lime and agave.

The market has 4,000 square feet of space to spread out in, with two patios. A large mezzanine solely dedicated to seating can also be rented out for private parties. You’ll also be able to place an online order via the Toast app for delivery or pick up at the market’s takeaway window.

“I’m really proud to open the doors and have everyone join me,” Phillips said.
