Step aside mimosas. When it comes to brunch in Charlotte — or happy hour, for that matter — the bloody mary deserves its due.

You can keep it simple or dress it up to the extreme, packing the savory beverage with a whole buffet of items such as olives, pickled veg, chicken wings, sliders and crab legs. (Yes, please. We’re here for it.)

Below, a list of where to find the best and most extreme bloody marys in Charlotte, plus a few bonus options that we just couldn’t leave out.

CCB Bistro & Vine

Location: 295 Herlong Ave Suite 401, Rock Hill, SC 29732

The cocktail: The Bloody Good Time

Cost: $20

CCB Bistro & Vine (formerly known as Corks, Cooks & Books) — a wine bar, restaurant and bookstore all rolled into one — serves a deluxe bloody mary called The Bloody Good Time. Its wine-based bloody mary is made by Picnic Brunch and served in a glass rimmed with house blend seasoning. It’s garnished with two spicy pimento cheese and tomato sliders on brioche rolls and the restaurant’s pig candy, plus a stick of celery and wedge fries on the side.

Bear Walrus

Location: 130 W White St., Rock Hill, SC 29730

The cocktail: Bloody mary

Cost: $12

Bear Walrus is a barbecue and oysters joint in Rock Hill that’s getting plenty of buzz for its woodfired meats and shellfish. Its bloody mary comes with a heavily seasoned pork rib, a piece of pickled okra and a celery stalk. It’s a drink perfect for pairing with barbecue — or seafood. (But if you’re not a fan of black pepper, beware!)

In a dimly lit restaurant, a pint glass is filled with a red Bloody Mary. The cocktail is extravagantly garnished with a whole smoked pork rib and a large celery stalk. The cross-section of the rib shows the pink meat and the thick, peppery bark.
