Mint Hill’s only brewery, which opened just weeks ago in the downtown area, temporarily closed briefly following a small fire.

Panzu’ Brewery at 7251 Matthews-Mint Hill Road debuted Sept. 15 with a Caribbean atmosphere. But on Monday, the new brewery temporarily closed following a “small kitchen” fire, Panzu’ said Tuesday on Facebook.

“The damage is very minor, but we are voluntarily closing our kitchen, investigating root cause,” Panzu’ Brewery said.

No one was injured in the fire.

Panzu’ was closed Tuesday to “focus on repairs and ensure safety.”

The brewery reopened at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Panzu’ said its Facebook page, but the kitchen remains closed.

Panzu’ officials did not respond for comment.

Owners Rosa Marte de Pacheco and Johan Marte, natives of the Dominican Republic, named the brewery in honor of their late father. They and their grandchildren had called him Papá Panzú.

The brewery has a seven-barrel system that can produce 546 barrels each year on site. Along with 16 taps, Panzú serves small plates inspired by Dominican and Puerto Rican flavors.
