The best slices of pie in NC are served at this bar, Yelp says. Why fans love it
A North Carolina bar and restaurant serves pecan pie — and fans can’t get enough of each bite.
So much so, the pie now ranks No. 1 in the state, according to results published March 5.
The slices — on the dessert menu at The Crunkleton in Charlotte — reigned supreme after the review website Yelp said it turned its attention to businesses that had several pie-related reviews. It studied numerous metrics, including the number of ratings and comments that customers left over time, to determine the best pie to eat in each state.
The resulting list of “50 pies you need to try” was published ahead of Pi Day, a March 14 celebration of the mathematical constant. Some people mark the occasion with a slice of their favorite pie.
No matter the time of year, people have praised the house-made pecan pie at The Crunkleton. The beloved Southern treat is “served warm with salted caramel ice cream” — and is a fan-favorite on Yelp.
One customer said the pecan pie wasn’t “overwhelmingly sweet” and is “delicately balanced with the ice cream.” Another raved that the “pecans were beautifully caramelized, and the sweet, buttery filling had just the right level of richness.”
Though The Crunkleton has a presence in Chapel Hill, the Charlotte location ranked No. 1 on the list. The establishment, on East 7th Street in the Elizabeth neighborhood, places an emphasis on cocktails and has brunch and dinner menus, according to its website.
Yelp said the restaurant’s pecan pie was more traditional compared to other states’ winners, such as the savory crawfish hand pie sold in Louisiana.
