You don’t need a holiday to show appreciation for your mom, grandma or any other special women in your life, but it’s nice to take the time to officially recognize them as Mother’s Day approaches.
This year, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12 — and you’ll want to get a plan together.

Angeline’s

Angeline’s will hold a family brunch on Mother’s Day from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., featuring an entrée of your choice, with shared sides and sweets including chocolate dipped strawberries, cannolis, tiramisu and assorted truffles.
Children will have entree choices including a yogurt and fruit bowl; French toast with fruit; Lil’ Angie’s Breakfast with scrambled egg, bacon and breakfast potatoes; pasta pomodoro and cheese pizza.

’The Anniversary’ dinner theatre experience

Matthews Playhouse is offering a Mother’s Day weekend dinner theater showing of “The Anniversary” on May 10-11 at the VWF in Indian Trail, with performances at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, plus a Saturday 1 p.m. showing. Your ticket will include an Italian dinner to enjoy while you watch the Rat Pack-style musical based on a timeless love story.

Mother’s Day at The Ballantyne Hotel will include a tea and a ballroom buffet, along with brunch and dinner options.
- Mother’s Day Tea at the Ryal: Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 from 1-4 p.m. in the lobby and Ryal Bar, guests will enjoy Rare Tea Company blends, plus seasonal and themed pastries.
- Mother’s Day Ballantyne Ballroom Buffet: Sunday, May 12 from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The buffet will be accompanied by live music in the ballroom.
- Mother’s Day at the Gallery Restaurant: Brunch from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., and dinner is 5-10 p.m.

Barcelona Wine Bar

A carving station will offer Dijon and herb crusted ribeye with horseradish sauce and au jus, along with turkey breast.

Thoughtful Baking chef/owner Mary Jayne Wilson and The Batchmaker Cristina Rojas are teaming up on a Strawberry Oatmeal Cream Pie that blends The Batchmaker’s famous oatmeal cookies with fresh, locally sourced strawberries. The pie will be an option in Thoughtful Baking’s Mother’s Day Brunch package, which also comes with a family size quiche and a Berry Pound Cake. (You can also select strawberry lemonade pie instead of strawberry oatmeal cream.)
