New takeout spot at South End Eats will bring authentic Uzbek-Tajik halal food to Charlotte
When Fozil Elbekov, owner of Charlotte’s new Halal Eats takeout restaurant, thinks about Uzbek-Tajik cuisine, he thinks about his mom’s kitchen.
“My mom and our family had a small kitchen in my country in Tajikistan, located in Central Asia, where we would cook the cuisine,” he told CharlotteFive a few days ahead of Sunday’s opening at South End Eats.
Elbekov said he is excited for Charlotte to be able to experience traditional cooking from his home away from home. Halal Eats will specialize in authentic Uzbek-Tajik cuisine, using a tandoor oven made of clay to roast meat and bake bread.
