Depending on your level of football fandom, Super Bowl Sunday’s competition might be between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles — or it might be among the best snacks lined up on the kitchen island or the coffee table.

It turns out, the snacks that are considered best vary across the country. So our finger foods in Charlotte, North Carolina, might be quite different than the ones in Fargo, North Dakota.

Newsweek compiled a map based on Google data showing the most popular Super Bowl foods by state, and the answers are interesting! So we took a look at it and thought it might be fun to see if we could get these appetizers here at Charlotte restaurants. If you want to experiment this weekend, here are some ideas borrowed from our neighbors across the nation:

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Where it’s popular: Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota and many others.

Where to get it in Charlotte:

Angry Ale’s; 1518 Montford Dr, Charlotte, NC 28209

Burton’s Grill & Bar; multiple locations

Leroy Fox; 1616 Camden Rd Suite 150, Charlotte, NC 28203 and 705 S Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211

Buffalo chicken dip is hands down the popularity winner in many states, including here in North Carolina. The simple spicy dip of shredded chicken, hot sauce, cream cheese and cheddar is a staple on our Super Bowl tables, and so it’s no surprise it’s available at many Charlotte restaurants.

For a pro tip, though, my cousin Andrea swears by the buffalo chicken dip at Publix — she swears it’s better than at any restaurant she’s tried. She’s my source for some of Charlotte’s best underrated restaurants, too — so she’s worth listening to.

Poke Honolulu; 10416 E Independence Blvd #630, Matthews, NC 28105

Razoo’s; 8011 Concord Mills Boulevard, Concord, NC 28027

It’s no surprise that crawfish etoufee is on Louisiana tables for any occasion, and Super Bowl seems like as good of an idea as any other celebration. Luckily, we have some great restaurants that serve it up just as well as if we were hanging out in “the crawfish capital of the world.”
