New nightclub brings Atlanta’s West African-inspired food and nightlife to Charlotte
The new Teranga City Charlotte, which opened on March 21, will host an official grand opening on Friday, May 2 on West Morehead in uptown. The bar, bistro and hookah lounge is part of the franchise The Teranga Group started in Atlanta, and it will bring its unique take on West African cuisine and nightlife to Charlotte’s center city.
Teranga City is just a few blocks from Bank of America Stadium in an 1,800-square-foot location where the former sports bar CLT Hub was located.
Initial opening hours being Thursday-Sunday from 1 p.m.-2 a.m.
“Teranga” means hospitality in Senegalese, and the first location opened in 2023 in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood.
The menu is described as “bold American” flavors “with a West African twist.” West Africa includes the countries of Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Liberia, among 13 others, so the food’s seasoning is steeped in multiple traditions.
Classic bar food abounds on the Teranga City menu — think chicken wings, chicken tenders and burgers — alongside specialty offerings like beef suya, lamb skewers and jollof rice. Drinks are pretty standard fare: bottles and classic cocktails like margaritas and martinis.
While it’s unclear how the Charlotte location will evolve, in addition to its evening dinner service, the Atlanta location also serves weekend brunch and regularly hosts events, DJs, happy hours and watch parties.
