Miss The Good Wurst in Charlotte? The next best thing has just opened — in the same spot

The bratwurst is back.

Clark’s Snack Bar opened Monday, March 31 with a quiet announcement on owner Lincoln Clark’s Instagram page, showing a picture of the restaurant and stating: “OPEN!”

In early February, its predecessor — The Good Wurst Company — had closed abruptly. Clark had originally opened that restaurant, too, but later sold it to other investors.

The Good Wurst Company served bratwursts, burgers, fries, hot dogs and Reuben sandwiches. Clark’s Snack Bar will also carry all those things.

Customers at Clark’s can expect a menu that looks familiar to those who enjoyed The Good Wurst.

Daily breakfast offerings include bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, fried mortadella or pork roll with egg and cheese and other sandwiches.

On the weekend, the morning menu includes a Montreal-style bagel, plus sides including grits, home fries topped with peppers and onions, and pastrami hash. Spiked breakfast drinks will be available, too.

The Good Wurst Company had also made Montreal-style bagels, baked fresh every morning in on-site ovens.

Many will want to try out Clark’s hot dogs, sausages and burgers — its signature items. Basic toppings are free (mustard, ketchup, mayo, sweet relish, chopped onions or sauerkraut). But you can also upgrade your meal with fancy toppings such as pickled onions, jalapeno mayo, family sauce, coleslaw and a whole lot more.

Clark’s opening couldn’t come at a better time for hot dog and bratwurst fans. Charlotte restaurant JJ’s Red Hots — which once had three locations — closed its doors on its remaining spot March 10 after days of long lines.
