Charlotte-area bakery makes Yelp’s list of the top 50 doughnut shops in the US
Of all the sweet spots to get a delicious doughnut, you can find one of the very best in the country around Charlotte.
Yelp revealed the top 50 donut shops in the U.S., based on the volume and ratings of reviews given by Yelp Elite Squad members for each business.
Three donut shops in North Carolina made the list, including OMG Donuts & Bakery in Concord — ranked No. 44 on the list.
“With a name like OMG, expectations are high — and this hidden gem delivers with bold flavors and over-the-top toppings,” Yelp’s report of the local bakery says.
“From red velvet to Oreo crumble, their donuts are as fun as they are flavorful.”
The local bakery has been serving its California-style yeast doughnuts for years and even has a second location in Southeast Charlotte.
“Coffee and doughnuts is a pair — it goes together. It’s a staple in our culture,” owner Mia Chang, who developed her donut-making skills from her uncle, previously told CharlotteFive.
Known for being bigger than the average doughnut at about 3.5” to 4” across, she once emphasized: Quality is really important to me. I don’t take shortcuts on ingredients.”
With 351 reviews on Yelp, OMG Donuts & Bakery has a 4.8 Yelp rating.
“This unassuming brick storefront with its hot pink signage stands like a beacon of hope for those who believe breakfast should be an experience, not just morning fuel,” one reviewer, Dale D. posted.
“Check this joint out. The aroma here is going to close the deal for you.”
Similarly, another Yelp review from Allison C. says: “These are some of the most beautifully fluffy donuts I have ever had. All are the same base donut with different toppings but all were exquisite.”
In addition to the Concord bakery, Hole Doughnuts in Asheville ranked second on the list, with Winston-Salem’s Dough-Joe’s at No. 35.
