Charlotte’s last location of McCormick & Schmick’s has closed, leaving fans of upscale steakhouse dining one option fewer in uptown.

Although McCormick & Schmick’s website still lists the South Tryon Street restaurant as a location, Google and the restaurant’s Facebook page list it as closed. Online ordering has been turned off.

“McCormick & Schmick’s located at 200 South Tryon Street closed at the end of day on May 25, following the expiration of its lease,” McCormick and Schmick’s COO Shah Ghani wrote in a statement to CharlotteFive.

“We’ve truly enjoyed being a part of this community and are grateful for the support over the years and encourage you to visit our other locations in the area including Dos Caminos, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle, Morton’s The Steakhouse and The Palm. Together with our sister properties, we’re committed to helping our team members transition into new opportunities within the organization,” Ghani’s statement continued.

Charlotte was once home to multiple locations of McCormick & Schmick’s — a stalwart option for business dinners, milestone celebrations and date night dining. Among popular options were fresh oysters, salmon and butcher’s specialty steaks, served Oscar style or doused in truffle butter.

In recent years, lunch was also available at the uptown Charlotte location for relatively quick service of an M&S Uptown Smash Burger or Wagyu Steak Frites.

Several steakhouses remain uptown, however, including The Capital Grille, Eddie V’s, Fleming’s, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and STK, among others.

Other McCormick & Schmick’s closures

The former McCormick & Schmick’s location on Barclay Downs Drive at SouthPark Mall closed in early 2024. It sat empty for a while, but has since become home to a Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar.

McCormick & Schmick’s is well known nationally for its steak and seafood, but has closed many locations in recent years since its 2011 acquisition by Landry’s.

Bill McCormick and Douglas Schmick originally opened the restaurant in 1974 in Portland, Oregon. The last location in that state closed its doors this March, and with the Charlotte closure, fewer than 20 remain.
