Southern Living, the venerable voice on all things Southern, has included a Charlotte restaurant on its recent list of can’t-miss spots for summertime tomatoes.

“Start booking now,” Southern Living assistant food editor Alana Al-Hatlani advises in “Tomato Dishes Worth Reservations, According To Our Editors.”

With only six restaurants mentioned in cities spanning from Austin, Texas, to Charleston, Haberdish is in elite company on the list published June 14.

“When I lived in Charlotte, Haberdish was my favorite spot for brunch or dinner with friends. Their elevated, but not fussy take on Southern food is truly exceptional,” senior digital editor Rebecca Baer wrote.

“The Fried Green Tomatoes are a must-have starter. I mean, I truly can’t resist if they are on any menu, but Haberdish kicks it up a notch. The batter is not too thick for the delicate tomato and perfectly crisp and they don’t just have your standard dipping sauce. It’s a chili-garlic aioli. Chef’s kiss, delicious.” Baer added.

For those who want to give it a try Haberdish’s Fried Green Tomatoes starter is also topped with pickled pepper tomato relish, dressed arugula and fried basil ($16).

Another option? Try the NoDa neighborhood spot’s Heirloom Tomato Pie with confit garlic, a three-cheese blend, shallots, shaved Parmesan and herbs ($16).
