2 award-winning Charlotte spots pair up for a pizza and beer partnership

Two of CharlotteFive readers’ favorite food and beverage teams have opened a pizza-and-beer partnership where diners of all ages are welcome.

The owners of Primal Brewery and ASM Group, the restaurateurs behind The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar and eeZ Fusion & Sushi, opened Tapside Pizza on Tuesday, March 3 inside the brewery’s Belmont taproom.

Tapside Pizza offers a selection of handcrafted, artisanal pizzas. Among the menu options are:

  • Margherita with red sauce, mozzarella, basil, sea salt and EVOO
  • Spinach pie with white sauce, mozzarella, feta, spinach, sundried tomato, caramelized shallots and pine nuts
  • The Hot Hive with red sauce, mozzarella, soppressata, pancetta, Calabrian chilis and a smoked honey drizzle

The giant brewery pretzel Primal is already known for will stay on the menu, joined by appetizers including fries covered in a house blend of melted cheese, topped with Parmesan and crispy pancetta. Salads will be available, as will kids’ meals.

“It is a natural partnership because both our vision and values align. We both believe in producing the best food or beer, and using only high quality ingredients to get there. Both of us also want to just give our guests the best experience possible,” ASM Group owner Alan Springate said in a news release.

In 2022, Primal Brewery — which has locations in Belmont and Huntersville — was chosen as the CharlotteFive Readers’ Choice best brewery. And in 2023, eeZ came out on top in the CharlotteFive Readers’ Choice best sushi poll.

“We’ve always believed that beer is the original social network,” Ray Steimel, co-founder of Primal Brewery, said in the news release. “Whether someone is ordering our Gold Medal-winning Corruption by Proxy or a refreshing Lawn Boy, our goal isn’t just to impress their palate — it’s to give them a reason to put down their phone and connect with the person sitting next to them. That’s what being Primal is all about.”
