Fast-casual restaurant serving flavorful Indian fare opens new spot in Matthews
A fast-casual restaurant serving South Indian cuisine is expanding in Charlotte.
Kolapasi Indian Canteen is now open in Matthews, offering biryanis, curry and other authentic Indian dishes. The eatery recently celebrated its grand opening, touting itself as the “the first drive-thru style South Indian restaurant” in the area, according to an Instagram post.
The India-based chain opened its first Charlotte location in the Steele Creek area last year, CharlotteFive reported. Its only other U.S. restaurant is in Greenville, South Carolina, and there are plans to several in the Charlotte area.
At Kolapasi, customers can expect a “build your own” experience similar to Chipotle. What sets it apart is that customers are encouraged to sample the different offerings before settling on a meal.
“We flip the experience saying that, ‘Hey. See, taste and only if you like, you get to order.’ So if you don’t like it, you don’t have to order,” Santhosh Muruganantham, co-founder of the Steele Creek location, previously told CharlotteFive.
Menu highlights include:
- Potato roast
- Classic butter chicken
- Shrimp chukka
- Double curry bowl
- Spicy coconut chicken
