Charlotte soul food restaurant announces closing. What to know for the final days.

A soul food restaurant tucked inside a big box store in northwest Charlotte is closing, but it won’t be your last chance to get a taste.

SkyView22 opened in January 2023 inside the Walmart Supercenter on Callabridge Court as a tribute to owner Sharnette King’s son, Qua’Shawn.

“He did a lot of music, and his last CD was called ‘Skyview,’” King previously told CharlotteFive. She added 22 into the name to signify how old he was when he died.

Ever since, the restaurant has been serving up dinner plates piled high with baked and fried chicken, cheesy macaroni, collard greens, cornbread and other Southern comfort foods — “the kind that make you want to dance”— along with “good old fashion hospitality,” its online menu boasts.

Wings, burgers and sandwiches are on the menu, too.

But now, Skyview22 is returning to its roots as a food truck and catering operation. The restaurant’s last day at Walmart will be March 1.

“We’re grateful for every meal shared and every guest who supported us at our restaurant,” Skyview22 posted via Instagram.

“We’re expanding our catering services to serve the community in a bigger way. This location is closing, but our food truck will continue to operate,” the message continued.
