Family features homemade fare at their fourth Charlotte-area grill and dairy bar
A North Carolina family opened their fourth grill and dairy bar in the Charlotte region Tuesday.
29 Grill Mooresville includes a full breakfast menu and burgers, pitas, salads, sandwiches, hot dogs and a dairy bar with hand-dipped Blue Bell ice cream, plus shakes and twisters.
The building formerly housed the decades-old Isy Bell’s Cafe and more recently Hometown Restaurant & Bar at 1043 N. Main St., less than a mile north of downtown Mooresville.
The bar area of the previous restaurants is now the dairy bar half of 29 Grill. The dairy bar also includes a “quick bites” menu, while the other half of the building houses the full-service, family-style restaurant.
The new location is an expansion for owner Melissa Riffle and her six children, who also operate Landis Dairy Bar in Landis and South 29 Grill and North 29 Grill in Kannapolis. Melissa Riffle is originally from Cabarrus County.
Her children include Silas Tucker, who runs the dairy bar at 29 Grill Mooresville; Jayda Riffle, who manages South 29 Grill; Jordan Riffle; Laila Riffle, who manages 29 Grill Mooresville; Kiley Riffle and Mika Riffle. Shayla Hatley, no relation to the family, manages North 29 Grill.
29 Grill Mooresville’s homemade food
Chicken tips over rice, with chicken gravy and fries ($9.75) is a customer favorite at North 29 Grill, according to its website.
The homecooked foods draw repeat customers to their restaurants, Laila Riffle told CharlotteFive during the Tuesday lunch rush at the restaurant. “Everything is homemade.”
The menu also has a Greek influence, she said, with gyros and other Greek specialties.
The Mooresville location is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Breakfast includes classic breakfast plates, pancakes and French toast, biscuits, omelets, country favorites (liver and egg biscuit, two for $8; liver mush plate, $6.99; and sausage links plate, $8.99) and “trending favorites” including the loaded breakfast bowl, $9.99; breakfast burrito, $8.99; avocado bacon toast, $8.49; hot honey chicken biscuit, $9.49; and the breakfast smash melt, $9.99.
