Charlotte activity picks for this week: Sept. 24-30

Here’s what’s going on this week (we’ll keep adding to the list):

Team Trivia

Team trivia: “Friends” edition is at Legion Brewing from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25. 1906 Commonwealth Ave.

Charlotte Film Festival

This 10th annual event goes from Sept. 26-30, and features different narratives and documentaries, all submitted by emerging filmmakers in and around the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Film showings (there are nearly 100 films!) will be at Ayrsley Grand Cinemas 14. The festival schedule and tickets are available here. A general admission ticket is $10 ($9 for students) and an all-access pass is $150.

Queen City Comedy Experience

A joint collaboration between Blumenthal Performing Arts, Queen City Comedy and The Comedy Zone Charlotte, the Queen City Comedy Experience will feature more than 30 shows featuring over 80 performers from Sept. 27-Sept. 30. Get your tickets here.

Nascar “Pup” Series

The NASCAR Cup Series is coming to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Sept. 27-Sept. 29. To help fans and dog lovers raise awareness of animal homelessness and get excited about the race, NBC Sports and North Shore Animal League America teamed up to host the NASCAR on NBC “Pup” Series at South Park Mall ahead of the Bank of America 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race airing on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. on NBC.To build on the NASCAR buzz in the area, puppies will play the role of your favorite drivers competing for first place on a custom-built NASCAR track. In an effort to drive awareness around animal homelessness, all Pup Series dogs will be available for adoption. Free to attend.

Times: Thursday (September 27): 2pm-7pm; Friday (September 28): 2pm -7pm; Saturday (September 29): 1pm-6pm.

A Piedmont Rhapsody

The Charlotte Museum of History and the Charlotte Symphony present Mill Village: A Piedmont Rhapsody, a multimedia experience. The event features 16 Charlotte Symphony musicians, together with live storytelling and images to honor the people who worked in our region’s historic mill villages, long before Charlotte became a major city and the mill buildings were repurposed as breweries, shops and apartments, or simply torn down. The free event on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 7-8 p.m. is part of the museum’s Charlotte 250 celebrations. 3500 Shamrock Dr.

First Annual End of Summer Community BBQ

This dog-friendly BBQ event at Fran’s Filling Station includes live music and treats for both you and your pup. Saturday, Sept. 29, 5-8 p.m. 2410 Park Road.
