An Asian street fare restaurant is coming to South End and we’re already craving these 10 menu items

Scratch-Asian street food and shareable plates are coming to South End in early 2019 with the opening of Hawkers Asian Street Fare. The 4,990-square-foot restaurant, which will be located at 1930 Camden Road, Suite 210, was designed with indoor and outdoor seating.

Four friends founded the concept in the Orlando area after traveling the world with the vision to create an eclectic dining experience based on passed-down recipes and carefully selected, popular street foods from Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. The name “hawkers” refers to street vendors in Asia who incorporate locally grown ingredients in the dishes they offer.

The South End spot is the brand’s first North Carolina location and seventh location overall. Which means one thing — the main menu is already available online and we’ve carefully stalked it. Note that the offerings change seasonally.

Nonetheless, we’re already craving these 10 menu items:

Roti Canai

Malaysian flat bread served with the restaurant’s signature curry sauce on the side.

Singapore ‘Chili’ Crab

Described as the national dish of Singapore, this plate features soft-shell crab, house-made chili garlic sauce and a fried bao bun.

Miso Ramen

A bowl filled with miso broth, braised pork belly, poached egg, pickled mustard greens and togarashi.

Five-Spice Green Beans

Expect them to be tossed in five-spice seasoning and fried until crispy.


Crispy Tofu Bites

Just like the green beans: tossed in five-spice seasoning (now we’re really curious about this seasoning).

Yi-Yi’s Chicken Dumplings

The dumplings are hand-rolled daily and can be ordered wok-seared or steamed.

Curry Duck Noodles

Egg noodles served with onions, spring onions, carrots, bean sprouts and signature curry.

Hawkers’ Delight

A blend of wok-seared tofu, broccoli, napa, carrots, bell peppers, shiitake and straw mushrooms.

Kimchi Fried Rice

Featuring sliced steak, eggs and onions.

Ginger Cheesecake

Served with orange marmalade, milo whip, candied ginger and purple coconut.
