A laundromat is opening in south Charlotte with big-screen TVS, free WiFi and food trucks this week

I never really thought of a laundromat as a go-to spot to hang out. However, when big-screen TVs, free WiFi and food trucks are involved, I might have to do some rethinking.

2ULaundry, a popular Charlotte next-day laundry and delivery service founded by Dan Daquisto, Alex Smereczniak and Sam Salin in 2015, recently partnered with Electrolux to create their own facility, The Laundry Room.

Located at 901 E. Arrowood Road and housed in a former McDonald’s building, this facility will be a new, hip version of the traditional laundromat.

The Laundry Room will feature big-screen TVs, free WiFi, a children’s play area and on-site food trucks to keep customers occupied while waiting for their laundry. The wait might not be long — according to the 2ULaundry website, the large capacity machines will have your clothes washed and dried in under an hour.

“This facility is going to be the first of its kind having both retail and commercial coin laundromat components with unreleased technology from Electrolux,” said Smereczniak, the CEO, in an email.

The space will also include comfortable seating and a lot of folding tables.

The Laundry Room offers the following service options:

Wash and Fold: When you drop off your laundry, laundry care professionals will separate it into lights and darks and then wash it on a cold setting. Then they will dry the items on medium heat and even fold them and pair every sock. Cost: $1.25 per pound.

Self-serve: If you prefer to be hands on, you can do your own laundry in the Electrolux machines. Payment is processed through their on-site change machines. You can pay with debit/credit, cash or through their LaundryPay app.

The Laundry Room will have a soft opening this week and a big, grand opening on July 14.
