Tex-Mex hotspot Superica is about to open a second Charlotte location -- here’s what we know

Superica, the wildly popular Tex-Mex restaurant in South End, is opening a second location in Strawberry Hill, specifically in the former Fresh Market near Sardis Road, in early 2019.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Ford Fry Restaurants had originally announced that El Felix would occupy the space in May 2017. The name changed because chef-owner, Ford Fry, felt like Superica felt right for Charlotte.

It’s a fun atmosphere with a neighborhood feel, Superica PR representatives said.

The Atlanta-based concept will occupy 5,851 square feet in the new location, and will be joined by Pawtique Holistic Pet Shoppe, Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins and MOD Pizza.

Ford Fry is leading the pack to open his next restaurant while head chef Kevin Maxey will handle the food-side of things. As of now, the menu will “pretty much be the same” according to Superica’s PR representatives.

Here are 5 menu items that we’re looking forward to eating in Strawberry Hill (that we’re already eating in South End).

Cocktail: La Paloma (El Jimador reposado, creme de cassis, lime, ginger beer) – $11

Appetizer 1: Queso Fundido (broiled monterey jack and chihuahua cheeses, warm tortillas, salsa cremosa) – $10

Appetizer 2: Steak Fajita Nachos (grilled steak on bean and cheese nachos, jalapenos, guacamole, sour cream) – $16

Entree: Short Rib (slow raised and chargrilled, chipotle molasses) – $34

Dessert: Tres Leches (sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk) – $6

The hours of operations will be as follows, but may change as they get closer to opening.

Lunch: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday

Dinner: 5 p.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Thursday

5 p.m.-11 p.m., Friday

3 p.m.-11 p.m., Saturday

3 p.m.-10 p.m., Sunday

Brunch: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
