Has Charlotte become a leader in social entrepreneurship? Queen City Forward’s Amy Chiou answers.

Who: Queen City Forward’s Executive Director and Charlotte Observer editorial board contributing editor Amy Chiou. Since August 2016, Chiou has helped lead Queen City Forward on its mission to “to unleash the potential of high growth, high impact social entrepreneurs in Charlotte to create social impact that spurs economic development, improves the lives of citizens, and drives a new model of sustainable growth.”

Chiou previously worked on multiple political campaigns, including both of President Obama’s runs, and Anthony Foxx’s mayoral run.

What: Chiou explains to Sallie Funderburk and me why she feels building trust is Charlotte’s biggest social issue. She also discusses her feeling that Charlotte is “comfortably segregated,” but moving in the right direction with a rise of new perspectives in the decision-making process. We ask if Charlotte is a leader in social entrepreneurship and if the city has a retention problem.
