The Red House Cafe is bringing a $110 burger and lots of Italian flair to NoDa

After nearly three years of waiting, Jimi Zuk and Joani Schulman received the good news that their Italian-American restaurant, The Red House Cafe, was a go at 3046 N. Davidson St.

This weekend, they will have soft openings from 5-10 p.m.

“Jimi has a lot of family down here,” Schulman said. “He spent nearly all his summer as a child in Charlotte. So for him, it’s like coming home.”

Inspired by his Italian friends growing up, Zuk said he started taking to the Italian way when it came to eating and cooking. He began experimenting with sauces, chilis, chicken and parmesan, burgers and hot dogs, and the rest is history.

Inside, the restaurant can seat 50 people, with a walk-up window for takeout, and outdoor seating when warmer weather returns.

At The Red House Cafe, Zuk will prepare the main dishes while Schulman will make the homemade desserts.

Here’s a look at the full menu which has everything from baked chili to chicken parmesan to a Philly cheese steak sandwich. They even have a Panther mega burger (2 lb. hamburger, 1 lb. bacon, American, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, pulled pork, peppers, onions and Red House potatoes on a giant roll) that serves 8-10 people for $110.

The Red House Cafe will have ten total flavors of Mooresville’s DeLuxe Ice Cream including:

Caroline’s Coffee and Caramel (coffee ice cream with brownies and a caramel ribbon)

Chocolate Rocker (chocolate ice cream with fudge brownie pieces and fudge swirl)

White Chocolate Raspberry – gluten free (white chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirls and white chocolate bits)

Pistachio – gluten free (true pistachio ice cream, made with roasted pistachio nuts)

Coconut Almond Fudge (rich coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge and chocolate covered almonds)

Nana’s Banana Pudding (creamy banana ice cream with vanilla wafers)

Cappuccino Crunch – gluten free (coffee ice cream with toffee candy for crunch with a ribbon of chocolate)

Creamy Chocolate – gluten free (full flavor chocolate ice cream made with the finest chocolate cocoa)

Charleston Sea Salt Caramel – (caramel ice cream with vanilla wafers and sea salt caramel swirl)

Dreamy Vanilla – gluten free (rich and creamy with the finest vanilla bean ice cream)

For the upcoming weekend, the restaurant will have a limited menu during their soft opening hours.

Appetizers range from $6.25-$10.50 with two items including mozzarella sticks and a chicken quesadilla.

Entrees range from $9.25 – $15.95 with items like pulled pork with two sides, pasta with Bolognese sauce, a cheeseburger and more.

Red house potatoes, french fries, a garden salad and succotash are just a few of the sides featured.

Make sure to make room for Schulman’s homemade desserts like a blueberry crumb pie, pineapple carrot cake, chocolate chip cookies and more.

Hours

The Red House Cafe will have soft openings this weekend from 5-10 p.m. The grand opening is expected to occur within the next week or two.

“We don’t want to jump in too quick,” said Schulman. “We want to do it just right the first time.”

Once all the kinks are worked out, the restaurant will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. In 2018, they are aiming to roll out a breakfast menu with breakfast sandwiches, omelettes and more.
