Two double drive-thru coffee bars offering 32-oz. coffee and energy drinks are coming in March

A new drive-thru experience is coming to Mooresville and expected to meet all your caffeine needs, including a chance to purchase a 32-oz. coffee or energy drink.

Clutch Coffee Bar is expected to open two locations in Mooresville. The first location will open March 3 at 154 West Plaza Dr. The second location will open two weeks later, on March 17, at 356 Williamson Road.

“Imagine the best customer service experience you’ve ever had and amplify that by three or four,” said co-founder Darren Spicer.

Rendering of Clutch Coffee BarSpicer and his other co-founder, John Anderson, have worked in the drive-thru coffee business for a combined 22 years, beginning on the West Coast. Both started when they were just 18 years old at different locations.

“Clutch Coffee Bar is really about building relationships with people, and the coffee is the medium that allows us to do that,” Spicer said.

Anderson and Spicer go way back. Spicer’s mom was Anderson’s high school English teacher.

“We knew of each other, but weren’t super close friends,” Spicer said.

After college, Anderson was working for Dutch Bro’s Coffee, while Spicer was doing outside sales in northern California. One day, Spicer drove through a Dutch Bro’s and recognized Anderson working in the drive-thru window.

They reconnected and decided to venture out and start their own coffee business. And the idea of Clutch Coffee Bar began.

Initially, the two looked into opening their new company in California, but after their lease fell through, they had to look into other markets.

Real estate broker, Clifford Blanquicet Jr., alerted them about a double drive-thru available for sale in Mooresville, N.C., and the rest is history.

“The theme behind everything we’re doing is energy-based, and we want to inspire our employees and customers alike,” Spicer said.

Flat panel speakers and surround sound speakers will be blasting music, including everything from EDM to hip-hop to ’80s rock. The employees get to choose what they want to listen to throughout the day.

Although the menu isn’t finalized yet, here are a few items you can look forward to sipping on:

Clutch Signature Coffee-Based Drinks: These can be made hot, iced or frozen (with a concoction of espresso, milk, sugar and flavor).

  • Avalanche: A cascade of white chocolate and vanilla (latte)
  • Base Jumper: Caramel and chocolate adrenaline rush (mocha)
  • Trifecta: Three flavors of chocolate perfection (dark chocolate, white chocolate and chocolate milk – mocha)
  • White Russian: White chocolate and Irish Cream classic (Amped latte)
  • Campfire: Liquid S’Mores delight (Amped mocha)
  • Charger: Smooth bourbon-flavored caramel (Amped latte)

Clutch’s Unique Drinks: The energy drinks consist of their signature energy drink infused with a scoop of your favorite fruit flavor. Served over ice or blended.

  • Infused Energy Drinks (not named yet)
    • Flavor examples: Strawberry, Passion Fruit and Blue Raspberry
  • Infused Teas (not named yet)
    • Flavor examples: Iced Peach Green Tea and Iced Strawberry Green Tea

Drink sizes will go all the way up to a 32-oz. cup. Each of the drink choices can be hot, iced or blended. You can get any drink sugar free, fat free, skinny or with an added flavor for free. Spicer also mentioned that their prices will be slightly lower than what you find at Starbucks.

Local pastries and other grab-and-go items will also be added to the menu in the upcoming months.

You would think opening two locations within two weeks would be stressful enough, but Spicer is already planning on opening a third location in Concord. Don’t worry, he’s also working on opening locations in a neighborhood in Charlotte.

As of now, Clutch Coffee Bar’s West Plaza location, set to open March 3, will be giving away free coffee on its first day of business.
