While Wu’s Cajun Seafood quietly closed at the end of March 2018 after a year serving a hard-to-wrap-your-mind-around Asian/Cajun menu, Bottle Cap Group has announced new plans for the building in South End.

Enter: Rosemont, soon to take over the empty space at 1714 South Blvd. Observer reporter Kathleen Purvis described it as “a simple neighborhood tavern.”

Here are six fast facts about Rosemont:

The aim is to be basic.

“We’re going back to the basics with cheap drinks, fried goodness, milkshakes and all the erratic fun in between,” owner Britton McCorkle told the Observer.

The projected opening date is summer 2018.

The building is equipped with a decent patio set back a bit from South Boulevard, so it should be nice at peak patio season.

It’s uncertain yet what will happen with the mural currently on the side wall of the building.

The mural features an Asian man with a crab. Designs to switch it up are in the works, hinted Bottle Cap Group, which also operates All American Pub, Hot Taco, Slate Charlotte and Oak Room in South End.

The name “Rosemont” is a nod to the owner’s childhood.

Britton’s stepfather, Tom Wicker, owned Yellow Rose Tavern off of South Boulevard when Britton was growing up. That’s what Britton remembers as a “cool bar,” one of the first to serve liquor by the drink in the 1970s, and one that saw celebrity appearances on its stage like Marshall Tucker Band and George Thorogood, said Morgan Conroy of Bottle Cap Group.

You can start following Rosemont on Instagram now.

The handle is @rosemontbar and the account already has more than 2,300 followers.

There will be daily drink specials.

We are also told to expect great bar food and a good time.

Consider it done.
