You might be a redneck if ... you drink Charlotte Motor Speedway’s new craft beer
Charlotte Motor Speedway has partnered with Cabarrus Brewing again to launch a craft beer called Redneck Hill, an affectionate name for the infield at the Concord race track that’s turned into a popular tailgating spot.
Cabarrus Brewing, also based in Concord, started canning the American Ale on Monday. It will be available for sale in four-packs at area retailers including Food Lion, Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter and Total Wine.
The beer will be sold for $8 per 16-ounce can at all major speedway events, including the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race in May.
NASCAR has been looking for new ways to drive attendance and transform racetracks into attractive hangouts for casual and hardcore fans alike — a bit like the Charlotte Knight’s BB&T Ballpark, which boasts craft beer tents, local restaurants and family entertainment. Last year, for instance, Charlotte Motor Speedway added a 42,000 square-foot sun deck with a dining and entertainment area.
Redneck Hill was the name given to the raised spot in the speedway’s infield between turns 1 and 2, the speedway said. Race fans began gathering there in the 1960s and turned the spot into a viewing area popular for grilling out and partying.
“If you’re a race fan who doesn’t drink many craft beers, you’ll like this. If you’re a craft beer drinker who’s new to racing, you’ll enjoy it just as much,” said Greg Walter, the executive vice president of Charlotte Motor Speedway.
This is the second time the speedway has its own licensed craft beer. Last year, it worked with Cabarrus to brew and can 600 Ale, a nod to the Coca-Cola 600 race that takes place in Concord every Memorial Day Weekend.
