9 of the best places in Fort Mill to visit for drinks, pizza and more

Located just over the state line, the bustling Charlotte suburb of Fort Mill has quickly become one of the fastest growing communities in the state of South Carolina. With so many things to do and see, Fort Mill is an excellent escape for your next weeknight dinner or weekend getaway.

Here are 9 places that should be on your radar to visit:

Amor Artis Brewing*

204 Main St. #101, Fort Mill

Why you should visit: To try Coffee Blonde Ale ABV 6.6%, a collaboration beer with Sospeso Coffee Roasters located in Waxhaw, NC.

In the center of downtown Fort Mill comes quality beer from this brewery with their crisp Fort Pilsner, Majestic Pale Ale and a Walk in the Woods lager. The suds are gaining in popularity among local bike riders, craft beer enthusiasts, Fort Mill locals who are excited to have a brewery in their hometown and just about anyone who tasted samples at Charlotte’s many beer festivals wanting a full pint.

Empire Pizza*

1504 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill

Why you should visit: To bite into the Chicken Philly with Grilled Broccoli Romano.

While most pizza joints are known for their pizza, wings, and garlic knots, the Chicken Philly is a serious contender for your new favorite dish. Pair it with a side of their broccoli and you’ll never look at broccoli the same.

Flipside Cafe

3150 Highway 21 North, Fort Mill

Why you should visit: To find locally-inspired fare in a low-key dining concept.

Owners Amy and Jon Fortes partner with local farmers and purveyors to ensure their entrees encompass the freshest ingredients available. A few of my favorite dishes we tried included the Cinnamon Crunch Waffle, potato bravas (they’re drizzled with rosemary creme fraiche, yum) and their soy chorizo and potato hash. This restaurant is a great spot to start your day on a tasty note.

FMDR (Fort Mill Dirty Riders)*

Meet in the parking lot behind Amor Artis Brewing

Why you should visit: To join a non-competitive social bike ride through Fort Mill’s historic downtown.

Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., take a 10-mile loop with a start/finish at Amor Artis Brewing. This social group welcomes all skill levels with just a few things on their minds: “get fit, make friends, support local”. You must have helmets and night riding lights to participate.

Hobo’s

213 Main St., Fort Mill

Why you should visit: Four Words: Chicken and Waffle Sandwich (golden-fried chicken breast stacked between two bacon waffles with maple aioli).

When you’re craving some patio-time, this restaurant boasts a large outdoor dining area that’s perfect for enjoying an ice-cold beer from their extensive tap list. Guests can look forward to live music on most weekends and they even serve adult milkshakes.

Local Dish

217 Main St., Fort Mill

Why you should visit: The Chicken Pot Pie.

This quaint downtown restaurant serves a good variety of Southern classics (save room for the bread pudding) in a cozy, yet comfortable, setting. They support local farmers, so some of the menu items change seasonally.

The Peach Stand*

1325 Highway 160 West, Fort Mill

Why you should visit: Freshly baked goods, quality produce, ice cream, restaurant, deli, grocery and a custom butcher shop can be browsed here.

Established in 1938, this stand is a purveyor of all things local from jams to salad dressings, Amish cheese, raw milk, free range eggs and several other unique goods. Over 150 locally grown and produced items, are available, many of which you can buy online.

Puckerbutt Pepper Company

235 Main St., Fort Mill

Why you should visit: This is the home of the Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper.

This storefront sells whole-grown peppers, seeds and a number of condiments that are enhanced with Ed’s scorching hot peppers (hot sauces, peanuts — try the death nut challenge — and much more). Read more about Puckerbutt Pepper Company in their C5 spotlight.

Southern Sugar Cafe*

100 Main St., Fort Mill

Why you should visit: To sip coffee, wine and all things delectable.

This boutique coffee shop offers pastries from their own kitchen as well as others like @sugarrmann famous kronuts. In their chic, comfortable atmosphere you can enjoy a glass of wine, cup of coffee, craft beer or even a martini. Step out onto the patio for a better view of the end of Main Street in downtown Fort Mill. They are now offering dinner and brunch.

I just recently discovered Fort Mill while touring the Olde English District of South Carolina. I absolutely loved it there, but since I don’t make it to SC too often (I live up in Lake Norman), I thought it would be fun to partner with my good friend Jessica Moore on this roundup (* Indicate recommendations by Jessica Moore).
