5 epic marriage proposals that will make you go ‘awwww’

Wedding season is upon us. While I’m five years into the married life, I still love a good wedding and love a good proposal story even more.

My husband proposed to me on the boardwalk of the Four Mile Creek Greenway in South Charlotte. While not extravagant to most, it was the perfect spot because that whole path is a special place for us.

Let’s see how some other Charlotteans went next-level with their proposals.

(1) Scavenger hunt

Blair Henson’s proposal is the one that inspired this whole article. We worked together at WBTV and he told me the story and showed me the pictures a few days after he popped the question. I was blown away. You mean these kind of proposals happen in real life and not just in the movies??

Blair proposed to Kaley in February 2016.

“It was a scavenger hunt with each spot representing an important place in our relationship,” Blair said. “It started at Sir Edmond Halley’s, the site of our first date, and ended on the steps of Susan G. Komen Charlotte, where we first met. I also flew her best friend in from Chicago to guide her along the way and capture as much as possible on camera.”

(2) Flash mob

Lerone Langston spent six months preparing for his magical ask. In September 2014, his wife, Kimberlie, arrived uptown in a limo escorted by police. She was greeted by a choreographed flash mob performing in front of Founders Hall, which included the smooth moves of Lerone, of course, and 40 Honey Bees, the Charlotte Hornets cheerleaders.

At the end of the three-song dance, Kimberlie was surprised again by a large group of her family and friends appearing and Lerone down on one knee.

(3) Ken and Barbie-worthy

Crystal Geldner’s husband, Kurt, maximized the perfect opportunity. They were both models at a bridal show in Greensboro back in 2010. It also happened to be Kurt’s birthday.

“We all did a final walk through together at the end of the show and I was quietly told that we needed to stay on stage to surprise him by singing the birthday song,” Crystal said. “Little did I know, I was the one being surprised!”

(4) Scenic route

Jenni Walker was proposed to by her husband Sander during a week-long vacation trip at the Grand Canyon. After enjoying an amazing dinner in the small canteen one evening (fresh food is brought down by mules each day), they took a walk to the Colorado River where Sander popped the question.

“To my mind, the Grand Canyon is the most beautiful place on Earth – fitting for the most beautiful woman I had ever seen,” Sander said.

And we all say “awwww.”

(5) Jumbotron

“All I asked was that it was NOT in public, NOT at a sporting event and NOT on a jumbotron,” said Melanie Tritten.

So what did her husband do? All three. Andy proposed in October 2007 on opening day of the Charlotte Checkers season.

“Chubby, the mascot, came up to us in our seats with a letter,” she said. “I thought he was handing me a coupon but it said, ‘My friend Andy wants to know if you will marry him’ and I turned around and he was on one knee with the ring. They brought us up to a suite (all pre-arranged by Andy) and we spent the rest of the night up there with champagne, etc.”

All of these couples are now married and, we can assume, living an epic life.
