C5 Checklist: 5 things you should do this weekend | May 25-29
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Charlotte! Let’s get offline.
(1) Get revved up at Speed Street
Thursday-Sunday, noon. Prices vary. S. Tryon St.
Every May, Speed Street descends on Uptown to celebrate the Coca-Cola 600. With country music acts, NASCAR driver appearances, a 5K and 400,000+ attendees, the event makes for prime people watching. Each day starting at noon, festival attendees will gather on Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte to enjoy vendor displays, kid’s activities, racing-related fun and more until 8 p.m. Then local, regional and national headliners will take the Coca-Cola stage starting at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tickets are only $15 to enjoy Friday and Saturday night headliners and $10 for Thursday night entertainment. All other activities are free.
(2) Honor women at the ‘Woman, These Are Yours’ art exhibit
Friday, 6-9 p.m. Free. Free Range Brewing, 2320 N Davidson St.
Charlotte Marni Manning, a folk-artist in DC, and her sister A.C. O’Dell have come together in their hometown of Charlotte to host their exhibit ‘Woman, These Are Yours,’ a tribute to women everywhere, the people-pleasers, and the workaholics. Check out Marni’s blog for a quick preview of the show’s art and poetry.
(3) Party with New Belgium at Tour de Fat
Saturday, 4-9 p.m. $20. AvidXchange Music Factory, 1000 North Carolina Music Factory Blvd.
Back for its 18th year, Tour de Fat, the philanthropic beer, music and bike festival, will be a day of live music, incredible costumes, awesome giveaways, delicious beer and the best people watching. Use the code “FatTireTDFCharlotte” to get 20 percent off your ticket! Because the only thing better than going to Tour de Fat is going and not paying full price.
(4) Prepare for summer at the Memorial Weekend Summer Throw Down
Sunday, 4-9 p.m. Free. 1400 Central Ave.
It’s that time again — time to break out your bathing suit, sunblock and bottle after bottle of aloe. Prepare for your summer with local vendors, food trucks, music, drinks and more as Elizabeth Billiards welcomes the start of summer with a local vendor pop-up.
(5) Go the extra mile at the Memorial Day 5K
Monday, 6:45 a.m. $15-$45. 4401 Barclay Downs Dr.
Start your Memorial Day with a salute to our armed forces by running in the Patriot Festival 5K. Once you’re done, go the extra mile (literally) by running another mile to honor our fallen heroes.
