Looking for something fun to do with the kids? Try these festivals.
Every once in a while, I get adventurous enough to leave the house with all three kids in tow and go somewhere besides the grocery store. It’s rare, but it happens.
This coming up weekend, Charlotte has got some seriously good stuff going on — stuff the kids will enjoy and stuff you’ll find at least, well, manageable.
Walk CLT
No, seriously — they had me at “family friendly”. Charlotte rates 74th out of 74 cities when it comes to walkability, according to Sustain Charlotte‘s website. Yikes. Hoping to combat the city’s drab numbers, Sustain Charlotte has teamed with OrthoCarolina and #thesavageway to meander on foot, in the company of tons of other CLT residents, through the incredible neighborhood of FreeMoreWest — basically the neighborhood with Pinky’s. Walk from business to business for the city’s second launch of #walkCLT
Friday, June 2, 5-8 p. m., 1518 Bryant St.(Recover Brands)
Vintage Charlotte
I basically Fan Girl @VtgClt and all things Amy Herman. I’m not ashamed and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. For the past few years, Vintage Charlotte has helped sculpt the way Charlotte supports local artisans.
For this year’s summer market, you can expect lots of goodness, like local mama Debra Aase-Farnum of Golden and Grey. She hand-makes and hand-paints some of the most incredible pieces you ever did see — all while homeschooling and being a kick-ass mama of four.
Saturday, June 3, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 1776 Statesville Ave.
Chalk Fest
A few years ago, the kids and I accidentally happened upon this festival in downtown Shelby. Random, I know. With a $10 registration fee, the kids and I decorated a sidewalk square for the art contest and the chance at eternal glory. Spoiler alert: we did not win, sadly, but loved seeing what everyone created.
New to downtown Shelby? Grab a beer and some delicious grub at award-winning Newgrass Brewing.
Saturday, June 3, 9 a. m. – 1 p. m., 111 S. Washington St., Shelby, NC
QC Femme Fest
I’m not going to go all political on you but now is one of the best times in history to support women’s efforts. *ahem* QC Femme Fest is a gathering of all-things womanhood: business owners, artists, entertainers, and tons more.
The primary purpose? Empowerment. So grab up your mini-feminists and bring them along as you support the incredible women in our community.
Saturday, June 3, 4-9 p. m., 1318 Central Ave.
