C5 Senses: 10 things to see, touch, hear, smell and taste this week
Get out and experience Charlotte fully, with all five senses.
See
– The sun set over the Catawba River from the rooftop bar of The Pump House. Best if examined through a glass full of red wine. 575 Herrons Ferry Road, Rock Hill, S.C.
– The mural in the tunnel at Frazier Park. The words painted low to the ground that read, “Try happiness.” 1201 W. 4th St. Ext.
Touch
– The white petals of Vincas at Lowe’s. They are sold in the gardening center off of South Boulevard for only $1.98 per carton. Time to get your hands dirty. 217 Iverson Way.
– The spines of books arranged in a Little Free Library, like this one in Dilworth. Pick one.
Hear
– The giant wind chimes on The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center Plaza. Titled “Resonances,” the piece by local artist Will Lee is part of the GovPorch project set to be on display until June 30. 4th and McDowell streets.

– The whip and smack of tennis balls on the courts behind Tom Sykes Recreation Center and Dilworth Elementary School. They fill up fast with doubles and singles matches after work. 1501 Euclid Ave.
Smell
– The earthy crispness of flash-chilled Rwandan tea on tap at the new Trade & Lore. Then ask about the Wort Chiller that brews it. 3306 N. Davidson St.
– The fruity notes in a flight of ciders at GoodRoad Ciderworks. Peach? Blueberry? Breathe it in. 117 Southside Dr.
Taste
– The veggie platter at The King’s Kitchen. Take your pick of four sides (I went for mashed sweet potatoes, creamed corn, coleslaw and black-eyed peas) and you’ll be rewarded with a hunk of sweet cornbread. Or opt for the fried chicken. 129 W. Trade St.
Experience it all.
