Earn favorite kid status with these 5 out-of-the-box Father’s Day activities

Father’s Day is this weekend, and aside from getting Dad the perfect gift, you have to figure out how you are going to spend the entire day.

Thankfully, those of you who are scrambling to find something to do on June 18 (myself included) will have more than enough to do in the Queen City.

Here are 5 options for how to spend this year’s Father’s Day in Charlotte:

(1) Visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame for a behind-the-scenes tour.

400 E MLK Jr Blvd.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame is offering an all-inclusive experience where you, your dad and the rest of the family can enjoy a brunch buffet, ice cream sundae bar, behind-the-scenes tour of the NASCAR Hall of Fame vault, general admission to the Hall of Fame and a free photo taken of your entire family. It is $45 for adults, $35 for ages 3-12 and free for children under age 2. Purchase your tickets and make reservations for either the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. brunch slot here.

(2) Build your own stuffed popovers and enjoy a drink you can eat at BLT Steak.

201 E Trade St.

BLT Steak‘s new build-your-own stuffed popovers will become a brunch menu option for the first time this Father’s Day and will be available for weekend brunches after. Diners can choose from over 25 ingredients like eggs, cheese, proteins and veggies on their Stuffed Popover Card to create their own popover. Choose four selections for $16 with additional charges for chicken (+$5), crab (+$5) tenderloin (+$13) and lobster (+$19).

Also, BLT’s signature house-made Bloody Mary mix will be garnished to create a drink you can truly eat: the loaded Bloody Mary. This drink is available exclusively for Father’s Day. Enjoy a veggie skewer with vegetables like grilled asparagus, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms with a side of bacon for $10. You can also order a grilled shrimp, steak or combo skewer for an additional $8.

(3) Take Dad up in a vintage WWII biplane and see Charlotte from a different view.

Concord Regional Airport

9000 Aviation Blvd., Concord

Legacy Biplane LLC offers flights to see the sights around Charlotte in a vintage 1943 Boeing Stearman. Choose from four flight packages, like the 30-minute Scenic Sight Seeing Tour of Lake Norman, Charlotte Motor Speedway, past the city skyline and back. Flight packages range from $250-$425, with a 10 percent discount presented to all active military, veterans, police, fire and EMS personnel with valid ID. Make your Father’s Day reservations by calling (704) 277-2596.

(4) Wander around Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

6500 S New Hope Rd., Belmont

Dads can explore Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden for free throughout Father’s Day Weekend. Enjoy music from noon to 2 p.m. (Caleb Davis on Saturday; Demperio Hertz on Sunday) and food and beverages will be available for purchase at the Garden store and at a food truck. For an additional $10, Dad can participate in a guided hike and bourbon tasting, where he can choose to taste three out of the five available bourbons.

(5) Bring your dad to JJ’s Red Hots for a free hot dog.

Dilworth: 1514 East Blvd.

Ballantyne: 15105 John J Delaney Dr.

JJ’s Red Hots will be offering dads one free signature hot dog with dine-in purchase. Which means: buying a meal for yourself equals a free dog for dad.

“JJ’s loves dads and families every day of the year and as a father myself, I thought it was a great opportunity to treat dads to a great hot dog on the house on their special day,” said JJ’s owner Jonathan Luther in a press release.
